Potpourri used for Saving money on healthcare?

Interesting concept here, as it seems as though healthcare is consistently on the rise, and vouchers are comming less and less common. Interesting research being done as  well, as the effects of aromatherapy can actually be the new wave in the future of preventional healthcare.  Many people take vitamins everyday to soothe certain ailments because of their health concerns in mixing medications, their skin, relaxation, or even cleaning out toxins and such. In development of refresher oils, we are researching the impacts of these aromas on the stamina, growth, and well being of individuals as well as their family members. An experiment tested recently suggests that homes  infused with inviting aromatheraputic scents lead healthier, more stress free lives. Is the wave of the future filled with aromatherapies in preventional medicine??

I share a memory with you…

Growing up, my parents loved to do things the long way when it came to vacations or recreational leisure. As a child, these were some of my fondest and closest memories that I will think back to forever. As you read on my storesite on my homepage, I go one about growing up in the country, and living in a owrld completely unaware that there was anything outside the diameters of our lil Pennsylvanian town in the mountains except for the beutiful landscapes of Maine, where my we would go to visit our family members who lived up north.

A fond memory that I often think of… and Love to re create  as often as I can, is, our fire ring in the back yard on summer nights. There is something about being a child that is so innocent, that the practice of something so much fun, is something that when gone without for too long, you grow up to miss. As a daughter born later in life in the family, most of the group gatherings around the fires in the yard ended when I got older, as family grew older, and my generation of the family started having lives of their own as well.  I think of those fires, listenig to a cross between country music and oldies- baking “Mountain pies” in the hot coals below. When it was time for bed, I would always sneek a peek of the adults from my bedroom window to see why it was always sooo important for me to go to bed ontime. As an adult, I was able to uncover all those secrets, as knowing that when “The kids go to bed” that was a time for our parents to let loose, and let “their” hair hang down. As a teenager, I remembered the parking lot being full, the ost beautiful of days, the games that adults as well as children would play such as egg battles, water balloons, and 3 legged races. The family would gather around the fireplace for as early on back as the old films on the reel were being used. We actually had to have them transferred to VHS in 80s, and eventually to DVD in the 90’s, whereas, I have a feeling in the newer era… we will soon be transferring them yet again to Blue Ray..lol.

The Secrets to Success

5 Tips that I am following Everyday

Much has been written about success.  You will find many differing opinions on not only how to achieve success, but even on what success is.  For some people success is financial bliss.  For others, it is freedom.  Yet others find success in health, family and friends.

Some say that success is just luck.  “Luck?  Nonsense. The harder I work, the luckier I get” said multi-millionaire Ralph Engelstad.  Hard work?  Forget about that!  Success is about laziness, says The Lazy Way to Success.  So who is right?

Can we distill all the success literature into 5 simple pieces of advice that all the “success experts” can agree upon?  I think you will find the Top 5 list below in all but the most radical personal development and success thinking out there:

1. Do What You Love

It is hard to argue with this one.  Have you ever found anyone that is successful doing something they hate?  I guess you can take the definition of success to any extreme, but I have a hard time accepting that anyone living in misery doing something they hate can be called successful.  Naturally, doing what you love gets you the motivation and the excitement required to achieve success.  In fact, for many, doing what you love is success in and of itself.

2. Perfect Your Game

If your definition of success is being great at something, then studies have shown that the secret to success is to practice to perfect your game.  These studies even argue that natural talent is irrelevant, and that it is all about the practice.  Regarless of which side of the nature versus nurture argument you simpathyse with, most people will agree that in order to be successful you have to perfect your game.

3. Be Unique

It is hard to imagine a clone being a symbol of success.  Success is about bringing your own unique ways to the world, adding diversity and value.  Most experts will agree that if you want to be successful you have to find you niche, you have to find ways to leverage your own unique gifts.  Success, even in its very definition, is about your own unique perspective in our vast universe.

4. Believe in Yourself

I am yet to find a successful person that does not believe in himself.  If you don’t believe in yourself, who will?   Studies have shown that success is influenced by your mindset.  Successful people believe that they can get better through their own efforts.  If you want to be successful, start believing in yourself.

5. Never Give Up

Last but not least, every success guru will tell you that you must never give up.  To be successful you must persist through failures, criticisms, rejections, and all the other negative things in life.  You must have heard the old cliché that success is a journey, not a destination.  In the success journey, the only time you can say for sure that you are not a success is when you give up on the journey.

Martha Stewart… Love her???

Its crazy how you start looking into people that you never would give a second glance too when you start a business like this one. People that got their starts form cooking like Rachel Ray or cleaning like Martha Stewart have created such success in an empire that they love in a prosperous industry. Throw a lil bit of Oprah in there, and you have something like me. I love my friends and family and find it so theraputic to cook, clean, and become a successful business woman.

To me, most of the things that Martha and Rachel do are easy. I enjoy whipping up a dinner for a large group of people. I enjoy crafting, of course, but at the same time- I enjoy the luxuries of a good life. After I got out of college in the study of marketing and advertising, I was astonished at how it really is “a basic concept” of being seen and heard by the right people at the right times. How do you feel about Martha, Rachel, and Oprah???

I , Like all of them enjoy reading in my spare time, I am hugely inviting to reading all kinds of books about the world and studies done on how to achieve higher learning and how to find those people who want to see something interesting, want to hear something different for a change, and have the time to take it all in and use it for the successes of our future.

Making the home an Inviting Experience….

History of Potpourri

Humans have been using potpourri from the time of the early Egyptian and Chinese civilizations, dating back more than 6000 years. Flowers, herbs and spices, scented oils and extracts were used as decoration, as part of the beautification process as well as in religious ceremonies and rituals.

Then came the Romans who used dried scented flowers in their baths and even during their sporting events. During the middle ages, the lack of proper sanitation and ventilation in homes and public places led to the use of fragrant herbs being strewn on the grounds, so that when people walked on them, the fragrances got released. In order to freshen castles, spices or herbs were placed in huge cooking pots after the meal of the day had been completed. People then took these herbs and spices and placed them in containers with lids, moistened them with spirits, and left them to rot, thus giving it the name potpourri or ‘rotten pot’. This process created a pungent perfume which was released each time the lid was lifted. Flowers were then placed in handsome bowls and baskets with these fragrant herbs and spices to beautify rooms throughout the castle.

During this era, the convenience of bathing and washing clothing was not as accessible, so wooden vessels were constructed to contain these lovely mixtures, and were hung inside of women’s heavy petticoats and were also used in pouches and sachets and tied to doorways. People also carried nosegays, small bunches of fragrant herbs which were held close to the nose when there were strong odors around.

Some people dried flower petals and placed them into sachet bags and put them in drawers to scent the clothes and repel insects.

Many centuries later, we are much more civilized but these sweet, pungent scents are still very much a part of our lives.

The art of making potpourri is now extremely varied. Commercial varieties depend on fragrance or essential oils, which are applied to an absorbant additive, which will hold the fragrance for a long period of time, and mixed with some of the original ingredients used for potpourri.

The most exciting part of making potpourri is mixing the recipes. A blend of different Flowers, leaves and pods produce a natural fragrance to suit your sense of smell – and your memories too. Herbs and spices add warmth, and cooking and botanical herbs add pleasant scents of a garden on a warm summer’s day.

Joyful Masterpieces

There is really nothing like recieving a special something from the heart. We all know that it takes a lot of time and effort to actually sit down and think through something creative to show someone that you care as opposed to going to the store and picking something off the shelf. But, its like that age-old term… What do you buy for someone that has everything??? I have some people close to me that are extremely hard to buy for, either it is because I don’t see them enough, or its just that I know that they have a prosperous lifestyle and if they want something… they would just go out and buy it themselves. The new line is exciting because I have crafted these new ones in such a way that you can actually see the time I put into them to personalize, and to make sure that they are all unique especially for that person who has everything… I can guarantee that even a craft addict is not going to have something as unique as these hanging already in their home. So the answer to your time given gift idea is… a wreath from the wreath connection. Not only are they carefully constructed with homemade potpourri, scented with highly researched oils and herbs for great health and pleasure…. but they are created with time, love, and skill, to ensure that special, meaningful expression without saying anything at all!!

2 days post- surgery

I have been doing great since the surgery, I was able to catch up on a lot of sleep today, and experiment with some of the refresher oils that I got in from the business. I have discovered this amazing packeted flavor that I pour into water that has been filling my tummy since recovery, and my face is still to swollen to be able to talk… but I sure can type! The doctors were very nice and gentle with me yesterday as they new how scared I was of going under… It was over before I knew it and I was awake and drinking milkshakes!! I have decided to donate a wreath to their office to thank them for their wonderful hospitality. Although my mother said that I was only in surgery for about 15 minutes, it was still a dramatic experience for me as they informed me right before I was put to sleep that my blood pressure was higher than normal, and that they were slightly concerned of the affect the anesthesia would have on me. However, when I woke up, they gave me something to drink, and I have been taking amazing care of my mouth ever since!! Thank you again to all of you whom have expressed concern for me over this crazy time with my painful teeth that I should have had removed years ago!! if any of you have to get them out, my advice to you is… you’ll be scared no matter what… but it WILL be over before you know it!! Back to work on some bows for the new line… I hope to hear from you soon!!

The Wreath Connection now has an Esty

After a lovely comment left on blog of a suggestion to an arts an crafts store online, my wreaths are now being shown in a showcase on February 2, 2009!!! Come check me out… Wall Decor!!

How I got started

I have always been pretty good at things of the domestic sense, I always excelled growing up at things like cooking, painting, and photography. I went to college at Indiana University of Pennsylvania for 6 years and studied Communications Media. My home is in Florida but I stay here up North for the time being and have been snowed in for days… A drastic life change from the sunshine everyday in the Floridian world. In the quietness of a cold winters night, I decided making a wreath would be a quiet enough job to do to keep the cabin fever away. I went up into the attic and grabbed some old potpourri my mom had been storing (but still smelled good) went around up there and grabbed some flowers that she no longer used because her colors in her home changed, and I started creating these aroatheraputic beauties. Being the economy the way it is and such, I decided to give the wreaths as Christmas gifts to the women in my family. They all have very beautiful homes, and are all women of art, so deep within, while watching each one of them open it I fealt nervous with butterflies. Not only did they rant and rave about how hard it is to find decor that is soo perfect, but they could not get over how wonderful they had smelled. They kept telling me ( you should look into selling them over and over) so on yet another one of those snowed in evenings I had done some research, a fantasy if you will on The Name I would Name it ( had I started my own business) ( No one had it yet) and wrote down the next wreaths that I would create and put up on the web. I went on to create my website, a myspace, a wordpress blog, a bogger blog, and even a chatroll chatroom!!! I went and bought my supplies and hard at work I was. All of these ideas were comming into my head, and I created a wreath for every one of them. Moral of the story here is, if I sent you a message on your blog, I truly did Love your site as well. I am finding true, innovative inspiration on this website everyday. And everyone on here has played a huge part in that!! As of today I currently have 10 wreaths for sale, and I am sitting here surrounded by all of them. They all smell so nice that if I close my eyes, its like I am no longer snowed in at all, but in fact in a field of wildflowers, or sitting on the beachside watching the waves roll in. I want you all to share this experience with me….. Check me out…. http://www.wreathconnection.com
